Toddler exploring a creek in nature

Ages 0 – 5

The first years are not preparation for life. They are life.

Young children grow through relationship, movement, sensation, wonder, and experience. In nature, they have space to explore at their own pace — building trust, autonomy, initiative, and a growing sense of self.

What we know

Attachment before everything

The first five years are a period of extraordinary brain development. The foundations for regulation, relationship, multi-sensory learning, and resilience are being shaped through repeated experiences with the people and environments around a child.

Wild Village’s infant, toddler, and preschool experience is built around one central understanding: young children need secure, consistent relationships with known and trusted adults. From that foundation, exploration expands, confidence grows, curiosity deepens, and learning becomes possible.

What the days look like

Slow Mornings. Open Land. Known Faces.

Sensory immersion

Mud, bark, water, stone, leaf, wind. Young children learn through their bodies first. We give them unstructured time in natural environments where every surface is different and every day brings something new.

Relational continuity

The same adults, the same children, the same land — season after season. Consistency is not a logistical detail. For children under five, it is the developmental environment itself.

Unhurried rhythm

No transitions every 45 minutes. No performance. The day has a shape — arrival, exploration, gathering, rest, story, departure — and children learn to trust that shape.

Language-rich presence

We narrate, wonder aloud, name what we see, and follow the child's attention. Language acquisition at this age is inseparable from relationship and sensory experience.

why it matters

Relationship, regulation, and the natural world

Young children develop in relationship. Their growing capacity to regulate, explore, communicate, and make sense of the world is shaped through repeated experiences with responsive, familiar adults.

Nature adds another dimension. It gives children space to move, notice, touch, repeat, experiment, and follow their attention without every experience being predetermined for them.

At Wild Village, those two things belong together: secure relationship and rich experience. Children stay close to the adults they trust while gradually reaching farther into the world around them. Connection creates the safety to explore. Exploration creates the opportunity to grow.

For families

You are growing here too

Young children regulate through relationship, and the adults who care for them need relationship too. At Wild Village, parents are not standing outside the experience. You are part of the rhythm of the day — spending time in nature, building relationships with other adults who know and care about your child, and having space to slow down enough to notice both your child and yourself differently. The village supports the child by supporting the relationships around the child.

Ready to learn more?

We welcome families who are curious about a slower, more relational way of being with young children — one that makes room for play, connection, exploration, and the ordinary moments where so much growth happens.
